Having worked in Australia, Japan, and the United States, Luke Edney has vast experience to help clients with the acquisition, disposal, and development of a range of upstream and downstream energy assets (including oil, gas, coal, copper and power). Luke advises clients on the development and financing of major projects including in the oil & gas, LNG, carbon capture, power sectors, joint operating agreements, operating agreements, farmout agreements, gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreements.
Before joining the firm's Houston team, Luke was a senior associate in the Tokyo office, and was seconded to JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, and international oil and gas exploration company. During this time, Luke was involved in the development and financing, of what was then the world's largest post-combustion carbon-capture and storage project, the "Petra Nova" project, a joint venture between JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation and NRG Energy Inc.
While working in Australia, Luke was part of a number of large scale project development initiatives, such as the BHP Billiton Olympic Dam Expansion, the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal, the PNG LNG Project, and the Santos Ltd led Gladstone LNG Project. Luke was legal counsel for Australia's Arrow Energy, a joint venture owned by Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina International, developing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in northern Queensland.
Luke's passion for justice and giving back to his community let him to being an elected management committee member for the Youth Advocacy Centre, a not-for-profit organization that works with youth with legal issues.
