Practice groupLitigation

Lisa Bonanno has more than 30 years of experience in litigation, with an emphasis on complex commercial matters. She represents clients litigating healthcare lending issues, high-stakes commercial contract disputes, employment termination claims, pension fund lawsuits, and real estate partnership disputes.

Lisa has litigated before a wide variety of state and federal trial courts, as well as arbitration panels. She has considerable experience representing clients and resolving cases in difficult mediations. Lisa has litigated breach of fiduciary, alter ego, civil RICO, legal malpractice, Employee Retirement income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), insurance coverage, breach of contract, government contract, and other complex commercial disputes.

Lisa's background includes significant victories for firm clients. She has successfully defended a healthcare lender against more than US$2 billion in fraudulent conveyance, conspiracy, and breach of fiduciary duty claims brought by the estates of former nursing home residents. Lisa was second chair trial counsel in a jury trial awarding the largest verdict ever paid in Delaware in a wrongful discharge case, and she represented a pension plan against a major asset manager, achieving a "make-whole" settlement.

Lisa has also directed strategy in litigation involving cases filed nationwide alleging complex commercial issues. She also represented a major insurer in resolving over 40 "employer stock" ERISA cases and more than 50 mutual fund market timing and excessive fee claims.

Before joining the firm, Lisa was a law clerk for the Honorable Richard L. Williams of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
