Leila K. Mongan

Leila Mongan advises clients on the best strategies to win complex appeals in the federal and state appellate courts. Drawing upon her varied experience as a trial and appellate attorney in the private and public sectors, she is a strong advocate for her clients' interests on appeal.

Leila has written briefs before numerous federal and state appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the California Supreme Court, and numerous California courts of appeal. She has also written briefs and argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the District Court for the Northern District of California, and the San Francisco Superior Court.

Leila handles appeals in many areas, including constitutional law, statutory interpretation, civil procedure, and foreign sovereign immunity. She also has wide-ranging experience in employment law, intellectual property, regulatory challenges, food and drug law, and general commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Leila worked at a well-known public law office, where she litigated cases in federal and state courts, and another international law firm, where she concentrated on litigation and corporate matters.

Leila clerked for the Honorable Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Honorable David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the Honorable Royce C. Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
