A partner in our Singapore Banking practice, Matthew specialises in structured asset finance and leasing acting for banks, financial institutions, lessors and operators in a wide range of jurisdictions.

Matthew has substantial experience of big-ticket cross-border transactions, with a particular focus on the aviation sector.  He has advised on a wide range of financing structures, including pre-delivery, export credit-supported and tax-based structures in addition to domestic and cross-border sales of individual aircraft and portfolios.

Matthew has represented many of the industry's leading banks and institutions active in aviation finance on some of their most complex transactions undertaken in the Asia-Pacific region.  

In 2016, the Singapore Business Review recognised Matthew as one of Singapore's most influential lawyers aged 40 and under.

Representative experience

Advised DVB Bank SE on an aircraft portfolio refinancing for Minsheng Financial Leasing - Airline Economics Aviation 100 Asia-Pacific Refinancing Deal of the Year 2016.

Advised The Korea Development Bank and KDB Asset Management on the structured senior debt/junior note financing of an A380-800 aircraft for Asiana Airlines.

Advised CA-CIB on senior, mezzanine and junior loan facilities to finance an A330 aircraft delivered to HKAC on lease to SriLankan Airlines.

Advised Malaysia Airlines Berhad in relation to its restructuring, one of the largest ever undertaken by a national carrier.

Advised The Korea Development Bank on loan facilities to China Aircraft Leasing Group financing the acquisition of two new A321 aircraft leased to Air Macau.

Advised BNP Paribas on financing to CIAF Leasing in connection with the sale and leaseback of a B737 aircraft to China Eastern Airlines.

Advised lenders in connection with the US$910m financing of four A380 and two B777 aircraft for Emirates.

Advised a leading operating lessor on the refinancing of two B737 aircraft leased to Nok Air.
