In a time of ever-changing policy and regulation, clients need someone who can help them think around corners. Leigh Barcham provides business-oriented legal and policy solutions to help food and agriculture companies operate within a heavily regulated market.

Leigh advises on state and federal regulatory issues that may arise throughout the entire food production line. She also guides clients in consumer products industries as they navigate federal advertising laws and regulations.

When she joined our team, Leigh brought with her more than five years of public policy experience. A part-time student by night and a law clerk by day, Leigh worked throughout law school at a firm in Washington, D.C., focusing on legislation and federal regulation affecting the energy industry. Prior to law school, she served as a policy analyst for international affairs and climate change at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Representative experience

Assisted trade associations and businesses in crafting comments to regulatory proposals, such as FDA's Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food draft guidance.

Represented businesses before the Consumer Product Safety Commission when conducting recalls of consumer products.

Conducted regulatory due diligence review of food processing company on behalf of a potential buyer.

Provided technical assistance to client on proposed federal food labeling legislation.

Advised beverage manufacturers on compliance with local sugar-sweetened beverage taxes.

Assisted food manufacturing and retail businesses in preparing internal policies and procedures for compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act regulations.
