Before becoming a lawyer, Lee Samuelson spent many years working in the real estate industry and gained valuable and relevant knowledge that he uses today.
As a real estate partner, Lee advises public and private, domestic and international clients in complex transactions in a broad range of real estate sectors, including trophy properties, shopping centers, regional malls, hotels, office buildings, multifamily developments, senior living facilities, industrial properties and mixed-use developments. His clients invest in, develop, own, occupy, and finance real estate directly and through joint ventures. Lee is also knowledgeable about a wide variety of commercial leases and architecture, construction, and property management agreements.
Lee prides himself on helping clients successfully and efficiently complete transactions, find solutions for complex issues, and coordinate large multi-property transactions around the world, as well as the real estate component of corporate reorganizations and mergers. Lee has not only been involved in many international real estate transactions, but he has also worked with foreign institutional investors to structure and implement their in-bound real estate joint venture investments and even untangle and resolve "broken" partnerships. Additionally, Lee has advised many U.S.-based investors with their overseas real estate investments.
Advised a group of Mexican investors in the US$650m acquisition of more than 4,600 U.S. apartments from The Blackstone Group L.P.
Advised Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd on several multifamily property acquisitions in various locations in the United States.
Advised ERGO, its asset manager (MEAG), and their affiliates, with a number of their real estate joint venture equity and debt transactions.
Represented Ivanhoe Cambridge and its affiliates with various real estate joint venture transactions for office, multifamily and hotel properties.
Advised GE in multiple senior housing community transactions, joint ventures, and financings, including the acquisition of over 180 communities.
Represented a privately owned real estate investment company in its US$2.74bn sale of a portfolio of 101 shopping centers.
Represented a foreign hedge fund in a bridge loan to an owner regarding developing a hotel in New York.
Represented New Plan Excel Property Trust in its US$6bn merger with Centro Properties Group, N/K/A Brixmor, along with multiple JVs & portfolios.
