Laura Verlangieri has established a diverse footprint in the Brazilian and Latin American markets, having represented clients on internal investigations, and corporate, finance matters and compliance matters.

Laura represents international clients on cases involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and is an active participant in discussions involving the enhancement of compliance practices in Brazil. She has also represented international and multi-national financial institutions and project sponsors in a range of cross-border projects and investment transactions, including power plant projects, infrastructure projects, drilling vessels, and alternative and acquisition financings.

Laura has spent her career at major international firms headquartered in the United States, first in New York and then in Washington, D.C. Recently, Laura moved to Hogan Lovells' Rio de Janeiro office to connect directly with her Brazilian and Latin American clients. While attending law school, she worked as a law clerk in the investigation and sanctions unit of the World Bank. Laura is a founding board member of the Instituto Compliance Rio – ICRio.

Represents one of the largest electric companies in the world in connection with an FCPA investigation related to allegations stemming from Operation Carwash.

Represented companies and international funds in risk assessments and pre-acquisition ABC due diligences.

Represented financial institutions in the US$3bn+ bridge financing of 27 drilling vessels owed by Sete Brazil.

Represented sponsors in the acquisition of various energy projects in Latin and North America and related due diligence, including several transmission lines in Brazil.

Represented financial institutions in various secured financings for the purchase of vessels in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia.

Represented financial institutions in the financings of thermal and hydroelectric power plants in Peru.
