Usman Khan

An associate in Hogan Lovells' Finance practice and based in Dubai, Usman Khan has experience advising local and international financial institutions, sponsors and corporate borrowers undertaking a broad range of conventional and Islamic finance transactions in the Middle East, Africa, Far East, Europe and the U.S.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Usman trained and practiced at a leading U.S. law firm in London.

Clients note Usman for his commerciality, ability to stay calm and get the deal across the line bringing in knowledge and experience working in the European markets.

In addition to English, Usman speaks Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

Represented Aareal Bank as lender in relation to a facility made available for the acquisition of a UK shopping centre.*

Represented Oaktree Capital as borrower in relation to an acquisition finance transaction acquiring commercial property across the UK.*

Represented Starwood Capital as borrower on numerous senior and mezzanine financings and refinancings in relation to hotel portfolios across Europe.*

Represented Starwood Capital as lender on a senior and mezzanine loan facility in relation to an acquisition finance transaction in Denmark.*

Represented a U.S. hedge fund as lender on its first loan origination in Europe.*

Represented a joint venture between UK-based Benson Elliot and US-based Walton Street Capital as borrowers on a pan-European €420m hotel portfolio acquisition financing.*

Representing an Emirati bank as lender on a AED1.5bn Shari'a compliant financing to a Dubai government entity in relation to the construction of a residential complex.

Represented several Emirati banks as certificate holders on a Shari'a compliant capital markets and financing transaction involving a hybrid sukuk and ijara structure.

Representing sponsors on an AED1.5bn mixed conventional and Shari'a compliant financing in relation to construction of a prime commercial and residential project in DIFC.
