Based in our Alicante office in Spain, Karla advises clients on EU trade mark and design law issues before the EUIPO and the European Courts in Luxembourg. She assists clients throughout the lifecycle of their brands; from conception and clearance all the way through to protection and enforcement. Karla is dual qualified as an Irish solicitor and Attorney at law. Before joining Hogan Lovells in 2010, Karla worked in New York where she discovered her passion for brands and gained experience in contentious and non-contentious trademark matters.
Karla represents The Estee Lauder Companies before the EUIPO. She also recently represented Clinique in proceedings before the CJEU.
While on secondment in the Hogan Lovells Madrid office Karla advised a leading tobacco company on trademark issues regarding plain packaging for tobacco products.
Karla represents Citigroup in proceedings before EUIPO and the General Court, and also advises on clearance, enforcement and transnational disputes.
As part of a Hogan Lovells team, Karla represents one of the world's largest construction machinery companies on IP enforcement in multiple jurisdictions.
Karla advises Starbucks on clearance matters, and on a complex multinational trademark dispute involving one of its core brands.
Karla has also acted for Pfizer in the enforcement of the world famous VIAGRA trademark.
