James Tansey focuses on white-collar defense in bet-the-company lawsuits and investigations for a diverse set of industries, ranging from food and health sciences to wireless technologies.

As a senior associate in our Litigation Group, James also defends life science companies in products liability lawsuits. A civil procedure wonk, he has experience defending consumer class actions litigation in federal and state courts.

During law school at the University of California, Berkeley, James was on the board of editors of the Ecology Law Quarterly and served as a member of the Board of Advocates moot court team. Prior to law school, James taught at Northern Islands High School in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. He earned his B.A. in English from Dartmouth College.

Represented a laboratory testing services company in a federal lawsuit alleging antitrust violations and tortious interference with business relations.

Represented pharmaceutical manufacturer in federal investigation involving purported anti-kickback violations.

Represented a Maryland biotech company in a federal securities class action and related shareholder derivative actions.

Represented key employees in prosecution of electric utility for obstruction of an agency proceeding and violations of the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act.

Assisted the NAACP and Lawyers Committee in gaining emergency injunctive relief to extend voting hours for three Baltimore city precincts with delayed openings.

Represents clients regarding expungement petitions in coordination with the Center for Urban Families and Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service.
