Hoi Tak Leung

Hoi Tak Leung is a Senior Associate in our Corporate group, focussing on strategic transaction structuring and complex contracts for TMT and commercial projects.  

Hoi brings to you a practical, plain English approach and an, energetic personality to contractual drafting, negotiations and advisory work – in order to solve your challenges and problems. He combines legal expertise and common sense with strong interests in the TMT, financial services, education, sports, retail and luxury goods sectors.

Hoi prepares robust and user-friendly contracts in various areas, including outsourcing, technology licensing and development; content licensing; electronic payments; distribution, marketing and supply of goods and services; TMT/IP-focused mergers and acquisitions, separations, restructurings and joint ventures; and hybrid commercial-legal documents – such as RFP, Service Levels, Pricing, Benchmarking and Scope of Services documents.

Hoi successfully manages complex projects through their lifecycles – from RFP to contract drafting/negotiations and through to project implementation. Having been on multiple secondments, he understands challenges from both private practice and in-house perspectives.

Hoi also advises on TMT-related regulations; data privacy; contractual dispute negotiations; licensing and IP-related matters; and hybrid legal-commercial matters.

Hoi has advised some of the biggest brands in their fields  – including Tencent, AIA, AXA, Kering and Telstra – and works with TMT and commercial companies and startups as they mature and launch different projects.

Hoi is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and New South Wales (Australia), and holds a joint Bachelor of Commerce / Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Sydney. Hoi is fluent in English and Cantonese, and has conversational Mandarin skills. When free, he is active on LinkedIn and Twitter, and can occasionally be found on a basketball court.

Advising Tencent in relation to various matters, including the launch of JOOX, globalisation of WeChat and various other products and services.

Advising various clients on commercial projects, including manufacturing and technology/content licensing agreements.

Advising various clients on TMT/IP-related M&A and joint ventures projects, including Pacific Century Group / FWD*, China Resources Enterprise*, Invensys* and Macquarie Bank.*

Advising various clients on complex contracts and day-to-day legal and privacy work, including 21st Century Limited, Polyconcept, Kering*, Hoyts*, Telstra*, Verite*, Westpac* and Woolworths.*
