Our pro bono work

In partnership with Dade Legal Aid, we host an annual program for summer associates and judicial clerks called “Getting a Head Start on Pro Bono.” The program encourages them to participate in pro bono legal services and emphasizes the importance of contributing to the community.

We traveled to a client’s plant in Dorado, Puerto Rico, to assist with disaster relief efforts there following Hurricane Maria. We joined forces with representatives from the company's human resources and legal departments to assist the plant's employees with intake for Federal Emergency Management Agency claims as well as for claims directed at the fund the company created to provide disaster assistance to its employees in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Florida, and Texas.

We secured a landmark victory for the Public Defender of the 11th Circuit of Florida in its excessive workload litigation, spending more than 3,500 pro bono hours on the representation. The victory provided much needed relief to tremendously overworked public defenders and gave meaning to the Gideon decision in Florida. We were awarded the L. Clayton Nance Award by the Florida Public Defender Association and the Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association for this work.

Our community outreach
   
We organized a donation drive to collect everything from water and food to toiletries and medical supplies for people in Puerto Rico who were impacted by Hurricane Maria.

We regularly support Camillus House and Lotus House on a variety of projects, including serving meals to people who are homeless, raising money and donations for toy drives, and supporting their annual fundraising events.

We collected and delivered more than 9,000 diapers and baby wipes to Sacred Heart Outreach Center in Homestead as part of their annual Diaper Drive to help support low income families, most of whom work in farming.

Through the organization Underwearness, we provided new underwear to children in need in the Florida Keys.
