Grow with dynamic resources

High-quality opportunities

I’m confident that I’m a better lawyer because I came to Hogan Lovells. We have the resources, clients, and matters you would expect of a large, multinational law firm, but the professional opportunities that are typically associated with legal boutiques.

The firm offers students frequent and significant opportunities to develop their skills, very early in their career. In my experience these opportunities are unsurpassed. When applying to different firms, I’d encourage you to consider the people you’ll be working with, and assess the culture of the firms you’re considering. This is a critical, but often overlooked, part of the process. It’s also where Hogan Lovells really shines, because our associates have access to some of the top legal minds in the country, within a collegial and collaborative environment.

Personal growth

Before I graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2005, I was a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John Hancock (DD-981). I went on to be named a “Rising Star” in General Litigation by Texas Super Lawyers. When I decided to join Hogan Lovells as a lateral associate, it was because I thought the firm would provide me with professional opportunities that I would not have at my previous firm. I also wanted to work with some of the brightest and most well-respected legal minds in Houston.

My experience so far has absolutely exceeded all of my expectations. Today, I focus on commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on energy and health care litigation. I routinely work with our Washington, D.C.; Miami; New York; and Philadelphia offices. Through the firm’s pro bono work, I’ve had the opportunity to assist a wounded Iraq war veteran with his appeal to the Army’s medical evaluation board, which resulted in him receiving full disability benefits. This representation was one of the most personally rewarding matters in my career.

A common mindset

My colleagues here are smart, hardworking, collaborative, and caring. I view them as both friends and mentors — it’s a very collegial and collaborative office. We also socialize with one another outside of the office. We get together for meals, baseball games (which I especially enjoy), birthday parties, and even Christmas Eve dinners.
