Maria Smirnova

I am an experienced and committed Business Development Adviser, with a career spent at leading international professional services firms. Providing strategic direction, opportunity spotting and prioritising clients and business development activities are essential to how I work.

I first joined Hogan Lovells in 2012 and immediately became an integral part of a renowned marketing and business development team responsible for building Hogan Lovells' reputation in the Russian market, extending existing client relationships and developing new clients and business opportunities.

During my professional career I've learned that I really enjoy working with lawyers and I understand how they think. This has allowed me to hold a number of positions with increasing responsibility within the largest national and international law firms operating in Russia.

Hogan Lovells has a proven history of implementing innovative strategies, systems, and programs to maximize efficiencies and profitability. That is why it is essential for each member of the team to have clear commitment to excellence and self-development in everything we do and a constant willing for integrity, high achievement and commitment to purpose. Understanding the culture of a law firm, I know how to collaborate and mentor others to reach the end goal and coordinate overall marketing efforts.

There are so many parts of my job that I like – the people I work beside, creativity, team spirit, multicultural environment and opportunity to work on a broad spectrum of projects from press communications to large-scale international events; from fee proposals to developing marketing strategies and increasing brand awareness and visibility.

I also get involved in a variety of projects which allows me to work alongside partners, legal teams, business analysts, senior project management and my Marketing and BD colleagues on six continents. It is a pleasure to see that my role is evolving with the growing needs of the firm and I'm happy to embrace every moment of it.
