Gerard is a senior associate with over 28 years of experience in real estate transactions across all key sectors. He advises buyers and sellers, investors, lenders and borrowers, developers and the end users of real estate which means he can anticipate and navigate clients through difficult issues to find pragmatic solutions. Much of his work has focused on large corporate occupier lettings or structured sale and leasebacks, development, the real estate aspects of corporate sales and purchases, secured lending for banks (including Opco/Propco structures), insolvency/corporate recovery for administrators and receivers, asset backed funding of under-funded pension schemes, general property management, and various transactions which use real estate for non-real estate purposes (e.g. wind farms and high frequency trading networks).
Gerard has extensive experience of working with (and, in many cases, as an extension of) in-house legal teams and their senior management (often based outside the UK) who are unfamiliar with commercial real estate issues, which means he understands the need to do their thinking for them and simplify the complexity of real estate transactions. He has dealt with numerous transactions involving European properties and so is familiar with how real estate lettings and acquisitions are carried out in Europe. Gerard is also used to leading multi-disciplinary teams comprising construction, planning, real estate disputes, banking, corporate and tax lawyers.
