As a counsel in our International Arbitration Group, Gauthier Vannieuwenhuyse focuses his practice on commercial and investment treaty arbitration.

 
 

He brings extensive experience of arbitration under the rules of the ICC, LCIA, ICSID and UNCITRAL, acting for companies from diverse industries as well as on behalf of States and international organizations. Gauthier has particular experience in arbitration in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications, energy, and pharmaceutical sectors, with a focus on emerging markets, particularly in the Middle East and Africa. He also regularly acts in arbitration-related Court proceedings including annulment proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeal.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Gauthier was an associate in the international arbitration team at a major international law firm. He also publishes regularly on topical issues in international arbitration.

Representing a Central European Agency in a 700 million USD ICC arbitration arising from a petroleum cost recovery dispute relating to the biggest onshore oilfield in Europe.

Representing a media conglomerate against a Lebanese company in parallel ICC arbitrations and court proceedings concerning breaches of agreements relating to their business in the Middle East.

Representing a company specialized in the design and delivery of broad-based telecommunications in an LCIA arbitration against a major telecommunications company in Cameroon. 

Representing a telecommunication company in an ICC arbitration proceeding involving contractual claims relating to a mobile virtual network operator contract.

Representing a steel producer in annulment proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeal against a state-owned company in the heavy industry sector.

Representing a Dubai-based school in annulment proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeal launched further to an arbitration regarding a land lease contract for the premises of a school in Dubai. 

Advising a market-leading telecom tower infrastructure company in pre-arbitration negotiations against a French telecom company in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Representing an oil and gas company in an ICC arbitration brought against it and three other companies concerning corporate law issues.

Representing a technology firm in LCIA and ICC arbitrations against its North African contractor regarding engineering contracts for oil exploration in North Africa.

Representing a central Asian state in an UNCITRAL arbitration brought by a Canadian mining company under the Energy Charter Treaty relating to uranium mining licenses.
