U.S. sanctions developments: What’s new with respect to Iran, Russia, and North Korea?

On 31 October we held a breakfast seminar on the latest developments in U.S. sanctions against Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

Aleksandar Dukic, one of our leading Washington D.C.-based International Trade and Investment partners, spoke on the intricate U.S. regulatory obligations affecting businesses, particularly in the Asian market. Sanctions and export controls require ongoing monitoring and compliance, even if entities have no presence or business in the United States.

Regional Head of Dispute Resolution and partner Maurice Burke commented on companies' compliance concerns in Singapore, and the region, drawing on local and international enforcement efforts, examples, and experience.

Topics discussed included:

  • re-imposition of broad sanctions on Iran – how does this affect non-U.S. companies
  • expansion of sanctions against Russia and North Korea
  • necessity for holistic approaches – compliance must be multi-faceted to protect your interests
