Trustee knowledge and understanding: the full picture for trustees

Please join us at our annual trustee training day on Friday, 27 September, covering all legal aspects of the Pensions Regulator's trustee knowledge and understanding syllabus.

The Pensions Act 2004 introduced statutory requirements about pension scheme trustee knowledge and understanding of pension and trust law. The Pensions Regulator has made clear that trustees should be able to demonstrate the steps that they have taken to meet these obligations.

To help you get up to speed with the requirements, we are running a full day training course, with break-out sessions covering issues specific to defined benefit or defined contribution schemes, aimed at new trustees or those wishing to refresh their basic knowledge.

Main presentations: to cover areas identified in sections 1 and 2 of the Pensions Regulator's guidance on trustee knowledge and understanding, including the role of pension scheme trustees, trustee conflicts, pensions and taxation, an overview of major pension legislation, disputes and the role of the Pensions Regulator.

DB stream: will also cover scheme funding, transactions, moral hazard and the Pension Protection Fund.

DC stream: will also cover topics from section 7 of the Regulator's syllabus - how DC schemes work, DC investment, communications with members and scheme administration.

The course and refreshments (including breakfast and lunch) are free of charge.

Target audience: new and inexperienced trustees of occupational pension schemes, and those wanting a refresher.

While the training day is aimed at trustees, those new to pensions in other capacities will also be welcome.
