Residential Real Estate Breakfast Seminar: Alternative investments for the current climate

The Hogan Lovells Real Estate team are delighted to host our breakfast seminar on Wednesday, 19 June 2019.

To say that the residential sector is rapidly evolving is an understatement. Is your development and investment strategy keeping pace with the myriad changes within the macro and micro political climate? In the last year alone, we've had proposals to withdraw section 21 terminations, new letting fee legislation, new planning policy and countless leasehold reform consultations... and that's all against a turbulent political backdrop.

This seminar brings together some of these topical themes and addresses the issues in a rapidly developing area of real estate. Taking the example of a residential development, we will look at these key areas:

Planning - Claire Dutch, Partner, throws a punch with her ten minute tour of planning issues for residential developments including later life living; student accommodation and the private rented sector;

Construction - Philip Hassett, Senior Associate, considers top tips for navigating the procurement process;

Tax - Elliot Weston, Partner, considers key SDLT and VAT issues that arise in relation to acquiring residential property; and

Structuring the Deal - Tim Reid, Senior Associate, looks at how careful lease structuring can mitigate against the challenges posed to developers by residential tenants' statutory rights.

The event will be chaired by John Condliffe.
