Hogan Lovells in partnership with the Association of Corporate Counsel Europe (ACC Europe) brings you the fourth in our complimentary webinar series focusing on the latest legal issues for in-house counsel in Europe.
Regulatory risks for product manufacturers are increasing exponentially around the world, with Europe and the USA leading the revolution. The new guidelines for product recalls and risk assessments by the EU Commission and the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act in the U.S. present just two recent examples.
Over the last decade, product liability litigation has also become a global phenomenon. Plaintiffs' lawyers and consumer groups are using improved access to information and better means of communication to interact on an international level. This goes hand in hand with increased interest of the media and public prosecutors in the various affected countries. Cases that have to be dealt with on an international level - with a demand for a consistent and seamless approach of the respective companies - are becoming more and more frequent.
To meet these new challenges facing international companies, in-house lawyers have to not only ensure that their businesses are well-equipped to meet the various regulatory requirements, but they also need to understand the practical implications of the ongoing changes, and be able to predict where the trends are leading. These issues also need to be factored in when preparing for, and addressing the challenges of litigation.
