The REIT and commercial real estate sectors have emerged from the 2008 financial crisis, poised for a new phase of consolidation and M&A. REIT and Real Estate M&A volumes during the first half of 2011 were up sharply as compared to the prior two years, with a number of large and very complex transactions successfully completed. Many REITs have shored up their balance sheets, regained the confidence of investors, and built up cash stockpiles and access to capital required to grow through acquisitions. At the same time, the global capital markets remain volatile, concerns about the pace of recovery persist, and pools of over-levered assets continue to wind their way through restructuring and recapitalization transactions. This year’s program will take an in-depth look at some of the transactions completed in 2011, and will explore the structures, legal frameworks and dynamics of the current environment. We will study the legal and financial strategies for restructuring real estate portfolios and companies in and out of bankruptcy; for successfully identifying and executing transactions; and for raising new capital, through equity offerings and other means.
Hogan Lovells partners Cristina Arumi and David Bonser will be participating in this program. Hogan Lovells is a Privileged Member of PLI and have unlimited access to PLI’s live programs and webcasts and can attend at no cost. CLE credit will be offered.
