How should GMPs be equalised: new guidance for pension trustees

On 30 September 2019 the GMP Equalisation Working Group issued its guidance on how schemes could equalise for the effect of guaranteed minimum pensions (GMPs). The Sub-committee responsible for this guidance on methodology was chaired by Duncan Buchanan, Hogan Lovells.

The new guidance follows the High Court judgment in October last year, which made clear that trustees must amend their schemes to equalise for the different effect of GMPs on male and female benefits. The guidance addresses a number of questions which were not considered by the Court but which schemes need to address when equalising benefits.

At the seminar, Duncan and other members of the Hogan Lovells pension team will discuss the implications of the new guidance for schemes and professionals faced with equalising GMPs.

The seminar will be informal, with breakfast and refreshments available throughout. Participation, and feedback on the guidance, will be welcome.

Target audience:

Trustees and employers responsible for pension schemes that were contracted-out before April 1997. Advisers and administrators working on such schemes are also welcome.
