Harmonization of International Regulation in Shipping Alliances

You are invited to the Hogan Lovells seminar on Harmonization in the International Regulation of Shipping Alliances held in relation to the European Shipping week in March 2015.
The seminar will address the need for convergence in the international assessment of shipping alliances. This issue has been brought under the spotlight by the prohibition of P3 by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the subsequent development of 2M and other major alliances (Ocean 3 and the expanded G6 and CKYHE alliances). There is recognition by regulators and many in the industry that there is a need for greater understanding of what alliances are, what benefits they produce, in what circumstances they could be harmful to competition, and how they should be regulated at the outset and on an on-going basis. This seminar will discuss the pros and cons of these issues and the extent to which international harmonisation is necessary, desirable or achievable.
