Food Marketing Institute's Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Conference

Steven Steinborn and Samantha Dietle will present at the Food Marketing Institute's 2019 Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Conference, which addresses the changing laws and regulations food retailers face.

Steven Steinborn will present on the long-awaited roll-out of the revamped Nutrition Facts panel and highlight the practical issues many will face and how FDA and USDA will (or will not) harmonize their respective Nutrition Facts panels. His session, titled “Food Labeling: The Times They Are a Changing,” will also discuss how to address changes in consumer interest, including the FDA’s response.

Samantha Dietle will present on the regulatory landscape for CBD-infused products, and federal and state enforcement actions during the session titled "Clearing the smoke: Navigating the new world of cannabis.” Fueled by the 2018 Farm Bill, consumer interest in cannabis-infused products is at an all-time high. Still, hemp-derived ingredients, including cannabidiol (CBD), remain subject to regulation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and states. This session will cover the rise of CBD-infused products on the market and how the FDA views CBD as an unlawful food or dietary supplement ingredient.
