Practice Group

David Moss is a London based partner focusing on transactions in the energy sector: upstream oil and gas projects, transportation of gas and oil by pipeline, LNG projects and downstream contracts. He advises oil and gas companies, other investors, off-takers and trading and commodities companies.

He has practiced with the firm for more than 30 years. David began by handling commodities and shipping disputes, then moved into trade financing of oil and metals. For the last 15 years or so, he has focused on transactional energy work. His experience of how things can go wrong allows him to spot risks early, prevent problems from arising and resolve them in a practical way. He works with colleagues focusing on arbitration on developing energy disputes, for example, price reviews under long-term gas or LNG supply contracts.

David has acted on projects in many countries. He has lived and worked for eight years in Asia (two years in Hong Kong, six in Tokyo) and opened the firm's Tokyo office. Most of his work is international. He advises on: agreements with host governments; joint operating/study/consortium agreements; area of mutual interest agreements; boundary delimitation; farm-ins; sales of crude, refined products, gas and LNG; transportation arrangements; and service contracts.

He has led several work streams in our work for the consortium developing Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz project, for which Legal Business awarded the firm Energy and Infrastructure Firm of the Year (2015). Legal 500 UK (2013) has described him as being 'very experienced in the energy sector'.
