With more than 25 years of experience as a benrishi (Japanese qualified patent attorney), Chikako Hashimoto focuses on trademark and design matters. She joined Hogan Lovells after working at one of the most prestigious trademark firms in Tokyo and having her own firm. Chikako, who qualified as a benrishi in 1987, as well as registered in Japan as a qualified IP litigator, is widely known in the industry for having extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional trademark and design portfolio management, which include prosecution, enforcement and litigation.
She has advised leading Japanese and foreign brand owners in a wide range of industries such as automotive and consumer products sectors. Chikako is currently a council member of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association, and a board member of the Japan Trademark Association. Chikako is a frequent lecturer at Japan's top universities and industry conferences. She is a professor at the Department of Master of Intellectual Property (MIP) of the Tokyo University of Science Graduate School.
Chikako is fluent in English and Japanese. Chikako was an external counsel of the Tokyo Customs for six years and has substantial experience in advising on anti-counterfeit activities. Chikako has a strong track-record of assisting clients in obtaining favourable outcomes in intellectual property related lawsuits, appeals and oppositions, which include securing clients' victory at Japan's IP High Court against the Japan Patent Office decisions.
