"Peers say: 'She's a good lawyer, no question.'"
Chambers, 2015
Bronwen May is a partner in our Hong Kong office advising on derivative and structured products. Having lived in Asia for nearly 20 years, she has a strong understanding of the markets here, and her team, based in Hong Kong and Singapore, advises clients in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Whether structuring or documenting an OTC derivative or structured product programme, advising on the flood of global derivative regulations, handling a close out or valuation dispute, or advising on a restructuring or enforcement scenario, Bronwen provides her clients with clear, practical advice.
Bronwen advises on a whole host of derivative and structured product matters: the full range of OTC documentation, all underlying asset classes (including credit, equity, fixed income, FX, fund-linked, commodities, and indices) and complex and synthetic structures, as well as establishing and updating debt issuance and structured product programmes.
On the regulatory side, Bronwen helps clients make sense of the flood of new derivative regulations from across the globe: Dodd-Frank, the Volcker Rule, EMIR, and regulations from the HKMA, SFC, and regulators across the Asia-Pacific Region.
Of particular interest to Bronwen are derivatives and structured products in stressed, distressed, and insolvent situations. During the credit crisis, she advised major investment banks and the liquidators of Lehman in Asia on close out, valuation disputes, and the restructuring and enforcement of a range of structured products. She has been repeatedly named as a Leading Lawyer in both Capital Markets: Structured Finance and Restructuring and Insolvency (IFLR 1000).
Bronwen regularly speaks at industry events, such as ISDA conferences, and is a long-time member of the ISDA Legal and Regulatory Sub-Committee (AsiaPacific).
