Florida Medicaid Announces Intention To Award Managed Care Program Contracts
Today the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) announced the names of the companies with which it intends to contract under the upcoming statewide Medicaid managed care program scheduled to be implemented by Fall 2014. As part of a competitive procurement process, AHCA accepted competing bids from qualifying health plans across Florida’s 11 separate Medicaid contract regions in Florida. AHCA announced that it intends to award contracts in various regions to numerous different Medicaid health plan companies, including companies such as Amerigroup, Humana, Sunshine State Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare and WellCare, among others. AHCA also announced its intent to award a variety of specialty health plan contracts to companies seeking to focus on serving special groups of Medicaid recipients, such as persons suffering from serious mental illnesses, cardiovascular disease, diabetes or HIV/AIDS.
