Practice groupIntellectual Property

Emmanuel Azih draws on his technical training and experience in electrical engineering to work with technology companies across many aspects of intellectual property (IP). As a lawyer registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), his practice focuses on patent litigation, patent office proceedings, and strategic counseling.

Emmanuel represents clients before federal district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the USPTO, and the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC). He works on all aspects of patent litigation, including formulating noninfringement and invalidity positions, as well as drafting motions, written fact discovery, claim construction briefs, and expert reports. He has also deposed and defended witnesses in the United States and Japan. Representative cases involve mobile devices, LCD televisions, DVDs, and various data compression standards.

In addition to his litigation practice, Emmanuel routinely advises clients on noncontentious matters, including patent procurement and portfolio assessment. He has drafted patent applications covering blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), business methods, and telecommunication technologies.

Before joining the firm, Emmanuel worked in Washington, D.C. at one of the country's top intellectual property law firms. There, he also co-taught patent law as an adjunct professor at Howard University School of Law.

Before becoming a lawyer, Emmanuel was a consultant at Accenture, where he worked within project teams of Fortune 100 organizations to devise and implement strategic, technological initiatives. During law school, Emmanuel served as an editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law.
