Senior Associate

Christopher Lock

Practice Group

As a senior associate in our International Trade and Investment practice, Christopher Lock assists clients in understanding how international trade and investment laws and policy affect their transactions and businesses. In particular, he has experience in handling a wide range of internal investigations, together with representing clients in any subsequent disclosures required before the relevant competent authority.

Christopher focuses on European investigations linked to sanctions violations or export control infringements. Christopher coordinates trade-related investigations across the Hogan Lovells European network and has represented clients before the European institutions, and member state authorities including the UK's Export Control Organisation. Christopher also works with clients to reduce the risks of an investigation through trade compliance reviews and training.

Christopher also advises on proposed investments or trade with an EU element. This includes advising on the regulatory aspects of the structure and financing of that transaction, regulatory filings required, assessing the consequences of the transaction from a UN or EU sanctions perspective, or advising on dispute resolution aspects of the investment. Christopher has a law degree from Oxford University and a Masters in EU international relations from the College of Europe.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Christopher worked at the European Commission's Trade Directorate-General on investment protection and investor-state dispute settlement policy. He previously worked as an international litigation and arbitration associate in a leading law firm in London and is a qualified Solicitor-Advocate.
