Caroline Bley is a patent litigator in our global patent litigation practice. As a fully qualified German Patent Attorney she represents clients in patent infringement and validity proceedings.

Caroline combines her scientific understanding of molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry with legal expertise in intellectual property law to advise clients in national and international patent proceedings in all areas of life sciences with focus on pharma and biotechnology.

During her biology studies, Caroline gathered experience in analytical lipidomics mainly based on liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry for comparative analysis of complex lipid mixtures. After completing her bachelor thesis in molecular biology, she started her master’s studies centred on microbiology and biotechnology and prepared her master’s thesis in cooperation with a R&D Company on the topic of design and expression of a heterologous MVA-pathway in E.coli.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Caroline worked as a patent attorney trainee at an internationally active patent law firm in Frankfurt am Main concurrently studying “Law for Patent Attorneys” at the University of Hagen. She acquired in-depth experience of legal problems during her placements at the internationally renowned civil court in Düsseldorf, the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court in Munich.

Infringement proceedings and inspection proceedings in the field of contrast media.

Advising a worldwide provider of sample and assay technologies for molecular diagnostics in opposition proceedings before the EPO and in a parallel infringement case.

Advising a New York-based healthcare investor in evaluating ongoing opposition proceedings before the EPO.
