Practice groupLitigation

Briana Black uses her multi-faceted experience to help clients develop creative, real-world strategies for litigation and compliance matters related to the healthcare sector. Counsel in our litigation and investigation groups, she represents healthcare providers, insurers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and other companies in high-stakes litigation, class actions, and pre-litigation dealings with the federal government.

Her cases involve a variety of substantive areas, including ERISA, parity laws, contract claims, the False Claims Act, and other federal and state regulations. She also helps academic medical centers and hospital systems navigate evolving standards for handling Medicare or Medicaid overpayments, self-disclosure of potential fraud and abuse, and other regulatory concerns.

Briana's longstanding interest in health sciences started in high school, when she spent a semester conducting basic research at the National Institutes of Mental Health. She majored in psychology at Georgetown University and worked on faculty practice management, graduate medical education, hospital operations, and strategic and budgeting projects at a major academic medical center. During law school at Catholic University, she served as senior student articles editor for the Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy.

Briana has a strong foundation in litigation, having clerked for the Honorable Peter J. Messitte in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

At Hogan Lovells, she serves as a resource on e-discovery matters. She's also committed to community service and offers pro bono representation, including serving as counsel to a court-appointed receiver of a public charter school and participating in Street Law, Inc.’s educational programs for high school students.
