Trevor Jefferies' practice includes general and commercial litigation, with a current emphasis on aviation, healthcare, insurance, and e-discovery matters. He has tried cases and argued appeals in courts in Texas, and has also handled complex litigation in California, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New York, and Texas. In addition, he has assisted clients with loss prevention and risk management consulting. He has also served as lead counsel for a major hospital in both litigation and regulatory proceedings. He has handled matters pertaining to the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions on Carriage of Passengers by Air, the Hague Convention on Discovery Abroad, and the effect of the European Union (EU) Directive 95/46 on the Protection of Personal Data on discovery in U.S. litigation.
Prior to joining Hogan & Hartson, Trevor was a partner with a large, international law firm. He also served in the U.S. Air Force where he instructed U.S. and international students in the T-38 advanced flight trainer and served as flight leader in an F-15 fighter unit. He is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Flight Screening Program, Officer Training School, Undergraduate Pilot Training, and Squadron Officer School in residence where he was the Wing's Top Graduate. Trevor also served as the Executive Officer to the Wing Commander, where his responsibilities included dispute resolution between senior base personnel and their subordinates. He also coordinated large air-to-air battle exercises between participants from many foreign nations, which helped to develop his negotiation and diplomacy skills.
Trevor holds a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. He is also a dual citizen of the United States and Australia.
REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
- Represented a member of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) / Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) in adverse action administrative proceedings brought by the UNOS Membership and Professional Standards Committee (MPSC).
- Represented a European airline to recover amounts paid to an aircraft leasing company for the proposed lease of a large commercial aircraft.
- Represented a major medical research center against claims of misappropriation of clinical and pharmacological research.
- Represented an international aerospace products manufacturer in U.S. litigation arising from one of the worst civil aviation disasters in the history of France.
- Represented a global energy services company as plaintiff in insurance coverage litigation in the U.S. arising from an adverse underlying judgment in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
- Represented a major airframe manufacturer in U.S. litigation resulting from the worst aviation disaster in Brazilian history.
- Reached a "walk-away" settlement during jury deliberations for an asset management company charged with negligence and breach of contract in a multimillion-dollar property damage case brought by a national construction company.*
- Defense jury verdict for an Interstate Commerce Commission transportation company that allegedly improperly modified and maintained the vehicle, causing paraplegia in the plaintiff.*
- Obtained temporary and permanent injunction for vehicle financing company suffering from fraud as a result of several hundred vehicle loans arising from one seller.*
- Defense jury verdict for a well-known orthopedic surgeon involving a medical device and allegations of lack of warning, gross negligence, and punitive damages.*
- Represented a major insurer in a declaratory judgment action arising from an age discrimination claim whereby the insured alleged coverage under an Employment Practices Liability form. This case was one of the first in Texas to construe such a form.*
- Represented a major insurer in a declaratory judgment action arising from a trademark infringement claim where the policyholder sought coverage under the advertising injury clause of the standard Comprehensive General Liability form.*
- Represented a major aircraft engine manufacturer during an overhaul of its sales and services contracts, including the limitation of liability and analysis of risk-shifting strategies resulting from an online engine health monitoring service to airline customers.*
- Represented a major airframe manufacturer in litigation resulting from one of the worst aviation disasters in U.S history.
