Susan Bright is based in London and is co-head of the firm's Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation practice. She has extensive experience in merger control, antitrust/competition investigations, litigation and competition compliance. Susan is a Solicitor Advocate. She advises clients in a range of industries, including financial institutions, insurance, media and transport. Susan is a trustee of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
  • Advising Umbro on its acquisition by Nike obtaining clearance in 13 jurisdictions
  • MasterCard UK Members Forum Limited - on the OFT's investigation into interchange fees on credit and charge card transactions in the UK, including the successful appeal against the OFT's decision to the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Lovells won the Legal Business 2007 "Competition Team of the Year" jointly with Ashurst and Jones Day for their work on the MasterCard case. She advises MMF on the OFT’s continuing investigation into interchange fees in the UK
  • She has advised clients on a range of issues in the financial services sector including:
    (i) the Competition Commission’s market investigation into payment protection insurance
    (ii) the OFT’s current account market study
    (iii) the European Commission’s retail banking and business insurance sector inquiries
  • International Group of P&I Clubs - advising on competition law matters, including obtaining an individual exemption for the Group's arrangements from the European Commission under Article 81(3) of the EC Treaty
  • Advising a syndicate of banks on the capital reorganisation of New Star Asset Management
  • Ellerman Investments (ultimately controlled by Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay) - on various acquisitions, including the acquisition of The Telegraph Group. This was the first transaction considered under the new regime for newspaper mergers contained in the Communications Act 2003
