Paul Dacam has established and now leads one of the only dedicated public law teams in the City focusing in commercial judicial review, human rights, public affairs and policy, and freedom of information. Paul's practice is top-ranked in the legal directories for both Administrative and Public law and Public Affairs, and Paul himself is recognised as a leading individual in both fields. His clients have described him as a 'great client lawyer' and he has been noted for his 'calm demeanour, sharp judgment, and collegiate approach'. Whether advising commercial or public sector clients on contentious or non-contentious public law and regulatory matters, Paul brings considerable experience gained over the years acting for both public and private sector clients across a broad range of industry sectors.
He has for many years represented claimants, defendants and interested parties in complex and high profile commercial judicial review cases and statutory appeals, taking cases to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in England, to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, and to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Paul has particular experience of providing innovative policy solutions and resolving disputes between clients and regulators in heavily regulated industries including financial services, transport, food, drink and tobacco, tax, technology, media, telecommunications and energy.
Paul is also regularly called upon by clients whose corporate reputations are under threat through adverse media coverage. He has significant experience of assisting clients in managing their very valuable reputations when faced with a media crisis, whether by obtaining an injunction to prevent a publication or broadcast, requiring removal of on-line material, obtaining a retraction or apology from a newspaper or TV station, pursuing a formal complaint to a media regulator, or suing for damages to compensate for the harm suffered.
