Intellectual property rights are of enormous value when properly exploited. At the same time, inadequate commercial arrangements can lead to a poor return on investment and sometimes even the invalidation of the intellectual property itself. Among the more than 390 lawyers, specialists, and paralegals in our highly regarded global intellectual property group, many concentrate on the commercialization and exploitation of intellectual property rights worldwide.

The licensing arrangements on which we advise involve a wide variety of technology and cross-border arrangements. We also regularly advise clients on the clearance of background rights, including rights arising from EU framework programs. We are experienced in the many antitrust issues that can arise in relation to technology deals.

We help public- and private-sector bodies on the division of rights in research results, balancing the public interest in dissemination against private commercial concerns, creating clear commercial contracts designed to implement the underlying deal.

Our experience across industries and technologies enables us to structure, draft, and negotiate domestic and cross-border agreements for the acquisition and commercialization of intellectual property and technology. Many of our lawyers hold advanced degrees in relevant technical and scientific disciplines, which help us to fully understand the value of clients' intellectual property and technology assets. In appropriate cases we can carry out due diligence for the purpose of verifying rights in the intellectual property at the heart of these transactions.
