Henrik Hanssen is an expert for IT, e-commerce, cybersecurity and data protection law. He advises national and international companies on all aspects of German and European data protection laws, and represents clients in contract negotiations as well as at data protection authorities and in court proceedings.

Henrik brings extensive experience in the creation of practicable solutions to data protection law related challenges, whether it is the evaluation of new technologies and in digitization projects, the design and implementation of structures and agreements for complex (international) data transfers, or in cases of data breaches. In addition, he advises and represents clients in proceedings with data protection authorities, both in the defence of administrative orders and sanctions and in other procedures (e.g. the approval of Binding Corporate Rules). Henrik has also assisted a large number of companies in the implementation of the requirements of the GDPR.

In IT related matters, Henrik advises clients on complex IT projects, software, maintenance or outsourcing contracts, taking into account applicable regulatory requirements.

He has special expertise in the field of cloud computing and in advising companies in the technology sector on IT and data protection law. Due to a secondment with a leading global cloud computing provider, he is familiar with the view of an in-house counsel and the practical requirements from a business perspective.

Henrik studied law in Kiel with a focus on IP law. While working as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Kiel, he received a Ph.D. for his dissertation in the fields of IP and unfair competition law. During his legal clerkship he worked, inter alia, for the economic department of the German Embassy in Washington, D.C., and for an international law firm in Hamburg.

Advise and negotiate IT contracts (cloud computing, software licensing and implementation, support and maintenance services) for a Danish software and cloud provider.

Advise companies (technology sector) on the implementation of the EBA guidelines on outsourcing and German Bafin "MaRisk" on the use of cloud services from a provider perspective.

Advice to German and international clients (consumer goods, media, technology) on requirements for direct marketing, e-commerce and tracking (websites, webshops and apps).

Advise a leading global provider of cloud identity services on the implementation of the GDPR and the drafting and negotiation of cloud services and reseller agreements.

Advice to a leading cloud service provider on the implementation of the GDPR, and drafting and negotiation of cloud service contracts and drafting of data protection guidelines.

Advise various clients on data protection law requirements for credit scoring and profiling under the GDPR and the German Data Protection Act.

Advice and representation of a German Fintech company in proceedings against a data protection authority and assistance during on-site audits.

Negotiate cloud computing service contracts data processing agreements with companies from various industries, including the financial and insurance sectors.
