Clinical Integration Involving Hospitals and Doctors
Navigating the Antitrust Issues
Clinical integration (CI) is a way that hospitals can work closely with members of their medical staff so that they meet quality and efficiency goals that otherwise would be difficult to achieve. While the approach holds promise, some providers have been concerned about potential antitrust risks if the clinically integrated program engaged in joint negotiations with health plans.
Recently the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued the first favorable advisory opinion regarding a PHO clinical integration program to be implemented by TriState Health Partners, Inc. This opinion suggests a new receptivity on the part of the FTC staff to clinical integration initiatives.
Among other things, the webinar will discuss:
- What is the significance of the TriState opinion?
- Key elements in successful CI programs
- How can hospitals work with their medical staff in a CI program
- Practical advice in designing a CI program
- How to reduce the antitrust risks
