Arun Velusami is a partner in the firm's Infrastructure, Energy, Resources and Projects team with experience in advising on energy and infrastructure projects in emerging markets, including in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the CIS region and the Caribbean.  He has particular experience in Africa and is Co-head of the firm's Africa Practice. 

His clients include project developers, development finance institutions, public sector entities and contractors.

Arun has experience of advising on most types of power generation technologies, including renewable energy projects (solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, battery storage), thermal projects (fuel oil, gas and coal) and hydro-power projects. He also has experience of cross border power trading arrangements and captive power generation projects.

In addition, Arun has PPP infrastructure experience in emerging markets, including in the road and water sectors.

 

Representative experience

Kpone IPP, Ghana – advising a private equity fund in relation to the power purchase and fuel supply arrangements for a 340MW power project in Ghana.

Interconnector Project, Zambia and DRC - advising a project developer in relation to the development of an electricity interconnecter and associate power supply arrangements.

MASEN, Morocco – advising on Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the Moroccan Government’s Solar Plant, in Ouarzazate, Morocco.

Road PPP, West Africa - advising a consortium in relation to its bid to develop a road project in West Africa.

Azura-Edo IPP, Nigeria – advising an equity investor in relation to 450MW Azura Azura power project. Azura-Edo IPP, Nigeria – advising an equity investor in relation to 450MW Azura power project. 

Eko Disco Privatisation, Nigeria – advising West Power and Gas in relation to its successful bid for Eko Disco. 

Sri Lanka Bioethanol and Sugar project, Sierra Leone – advising a project developer on the development and construction aspects of a bioethanol, sugar production and power project.

Geothermal project, Caribbean – advising a developer in relation to the development, construction and financing of a geothermal power project.

CEC power trading, Zambia and DRC – advising CEC in relation to the sale of power from Zambia to mines in the DRC, involving SNEL’s transmission and distribution network.

Mine power purchase, Zambia and DRC – advising a mine in relation to its power purchase and wheeling arrangements.
