Ellie Rees is a senior associate in our insurance and reinsurance team who has experience in advising clients across a wide range of contentious, regulatory and transactional matters within the insurance market. This includes complex disputes, coverage advice, claims handling, and the drafting of policy wordings and other commercial arrangements. 

Ellie has particular focus on advising clients across a wide range of issues in the international trade sphere, specifically on sanctions and export controls matters. Ellie has acted on various investigatory, advisory and transactional matters within the UK and EU legal framework and regularly liaises with U.S. colleagues on the application of U.S. laws.

Ellie's clients include insurance intermediaries, insurers, reinsurers, and a wide range of companies in other sectors. She has also spent time in-house with a number of insurance brokers, and with an in-house commercial legal team.

Representative experience

Advising clients in a range of sectors on economic and trade sanctions, from compliance policies and individual transactions, through to claims, disputes, licensing, reporting and investigations.

Acting for a client in a complex warranty and indemnity insurance coverage dispute.

Advising a client on multi-million pound political risks insurance arbitration.

Advising insurers, brokers and retail clients on the UK regulatory requirements related to the carrying on of regulated activities in the UK.

Advising on a number of corporate and real estate transactional deals on warranty and indemnity insurance aspects.

 

Advising an insurtech company on the structuring and drafting of a distribution arrangement in the UK.

Advising on a number of corporate transactional deals (on both buy-side and sell-side) on sanctions and export controls aspects.
