Intellectual Property

Nils Rauer concentrates on copyright and trademark as well as advertising and unfair competition law. His clients value him as a proven copyright expert both in terms of strategic advice and in litigious matters. Nils leads our global copyright group and as such is the primary contact for international and cross-border transfer and licensing of copyright protected content. Most recently, he has represented the Technische Universität Darmstadt in a landmark case before the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the digitizing and display of works. In addition he advises on aspects of the Digital Single Market, notably portability of digital content, ISP liability for user-generated content and online broadcasting.

Nils also regularly advises on the development and implementing of advertising campaigns. His particular focus lies on the automotive, consumer appliances and financial industries. Further, he advises well-known clients from the cosmetics sector. As an experienced litigator, Nils represents his client also in litigious disputes with competitors and consumer associations. A third cornerstone in Nils' knowledge is data protection law. He particularly advises on international data transfer, the development of Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) and cloud-based outsourcing projects.

JUVE Handbook lists Nils as an often recommended lawyer for unfair competition and trademark matters. His clients especially appreciate Nils' "clear communication strict keeping of pledges" (Legal 500 Handbook 2015). Nils is a member of the copyright and publishing expert committee of GRUR and member of DGRI. He is lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz as well as speaker at the Academy of German Book Trade. He is head of our IP, Media & Technology team in Frankfurt.
