Hogan Lovells Advises Exelon on the US/Japanese nuclear joint venture

TOKYO, April 2017 – A team of Tokyo, Washington, D.C., New York and Singapore lawyers of global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised Exelon Corporation, America’s leading nuclear operator, on the formation of a new 50:50 joint venture with The Japan Atomic Power Company, a pioneer in Japan’s nuclear power industry.

The new joint venture, JExel Nuclear Company, is established to advance excellence in nuclear power plant operations around the globe by drawing on the knowledge, skill and expertise of Exelon and JAPC to provide advisory services internationally to operators of nuclear power plants utilizing Japanese reactor technology.

The Hogan Lovells team was co-led by Tokyo-based Infrastructure, Energy, Resources and Projects (IERP) partner Joseph Kim and Washington, D.C.-based of counsel Steven Miller, with support from partners Lisa Yano (Corporate, Tokyo) and Hiroto Imai (IP, Tokyo), counsel Joseph Eng (IP, New York) and associates Robin Musch (IERP, Singapore), Paul Henesy (Corporate, Tokyo) and Chiyokazu Shindo (Corporate, Tokyo). Hogan Lovells provided the full spectrum of legal services and advised on all matters in relation to the formation of the joint venture including both international and Japanese law aspects.
