Drone Security Roundtable

Hogan Lovells' Global UAS Practice Chair Lisa Ellman has been invited by the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Aviation to participate in a roundtable policy discussion on "Counter-UAS Issues," taking place on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Lisa will appear on behalf of the Commercial Drone Alliance, an independent 501c6 non-profit led by key figures of the commercial drone industry.

The purpose of the roundtable, which will be chaired by Representative Frank LoBiondo (R-New Jersey), is to review issues relating to the domestic use of counter-unmanned aerial system (c-UAS) technologies. Participants will discuss lessons learned since the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2017, actions that can be taken by civil UAS operators to mitigate problems, and ongoing efforts by the FAA and the Department of Defense to minimize any impacts caused by c-UAS use on the national airspace system. Participants will also discuss Section 336 reform and the need for a remote identification framework which is necessary to enable any c-UAS framework to be successful.

Roundtable participants will include:

  • Ms. Angela Stubblefield, Deputy Associate Administrator for Security and Hazardous Materials Safety, Federal Aviation Administration
  • Mr. Steven Mucklow, Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Integration and Defense Support of Civil Authorities
  • Mr. David Silver, Vice President, Civil Aviation, Aerospace Industries Association
  • Ms. Lisa Ellman, Co-executive Director, Commercial Drone Alliance
