Supporting the next generation of legal advisors

Pro Bono

Law students in Hamburg joined us for a workshop on how to advise refugees.

This was the second session we hosted for the Refugee Law Clinic Kiel, an initiative in which law students from Kiel University volunteer to offer free legal advice to refugees . We invited students to our office for the workshop: "A Guide to Successful Legal Consultations for Refugee Law Clinics.”

We welcomed 19 law students and presented on how to deal with clients, determine the facts, and engage the best questioning techniques. We discussed all the typical phases of a consultation and gave tips on how to behave in particular discussion scenarios and on "crisis management.”

After a short break, the students finally assumed the role of legal advisors. Our lawyers played the part of refugees in need of advice, and we provided the students with increasingly difficult scenarios in which to test their skills.
