Attacking both source and destination

Pro Bono

Asia Pacific and Middle East

Our Vietnam offices succeeded in securing funding from the UK's Home Office that will support the activities of two nonprofits working to counter child trafficking from Vietnam to the UK.

We filed a joint bid for funding alongside Pacific Links Foundation (US NGO based in Vietnam), ECPAT UK, and Anti-Slavery International (ASI). Pacific Links and ECPAT will create an educational film aimed at Vietnamese youth to warn them of the dangers of being trafficked abroad. The film will be produced in English and Vietnamese and broadcast in Vietnam, the UK, and across Europe, where children transit through on their way to the UK.  In addition, Pacific Links Foundation will create a national media campaign centered around football that will specifically target the provinces from where most of the victims originate.

Our Vietnam offices will provide regulatory and transactional advice and support to enable the film and media campaign to be produced. The project will also involve producing training materials for local factory owners on the issues of modern day slavery.

Vietnam is the single largest source country for child victims of trafficking, and #2 for all age groups behind Albania. Criminal gangs have enslaved over 3000 Vietnamese children for profit.  In 2016, 13% of all potential trafficking victims in the UK came from Vietnam.
