Debt Capital Markets (DCM) have shown a marked resurgence in 2009, with global issuance reaching US$5.6tn, up 29 percent on the previous year. In part, growth has stemmed from a cautious banking sector, which has spurred issuers to diversify their sources of funding, where possible extending debt maturities.

The U.S. market has been fairly strong during the recession including continued investments into non-U.S. corporations.

Russia and Central and Eastern Europe were relatively quiet in 2009 compared to previous years, however early 2010 has seen some return of activity in these markets.

Asia had a strong 2009 with issuance up 71% on 2008.
