Christopher Thomas represents firms involved in European Commission investigations of international cartels and alleged abuse of dominance, and in merger control proceedings; he coordinates the defence of competition law investigations across Europe and internationally; and he acts as advocate before the EU Courts in competition, procurement and other cases. Christopher also advises more generally on EU regulatory law issues.
Christopher is a partner in our Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation practice. Based in Brussels, he advises on antitrust compliance in a variety of sectors with complex commercial or technological issues.
In the field of technology and intellectual property, his experience includes interoperability between Windows and work group server operating systems, the bundling of Internet Explorer into Windows, patent ambush and JEDEC standards for computer memory, the licensing of music performance rights for online use, standard-setting within ETSI and the enforcement of essential patents, licensing and refusal to license, dispute settlements, online sales and various other matters.
In life sciences, Christopher has also been involved with research and development cooperation, in- and out-licensing, supply and contract manufacturing agreements, distribution and promotion arrangements, pricing changes, refusals to supply, parallel trade issues, applications for marketing authorisation under the biosimilar and other routes, applications for SPCs, and various other regulatory issues.
More generally, Christopher has experience of varied sectors such as air cargo, financial services, industrial tubes and copper plumbing tubes, carbonless paper, motor vehicles, construction, engine manufacturing, precision engineering products, beverage alcohol, chemicals, rail transport, fashion goods and consumer electronics.
