Bert Oosting graduated from the University of Utrecht with a degree in Neuropsychology in 1986 and worked as a Researcher and Lecturer at the Cognitive Science and Neuropsychology Department of the University of Utrecht from 1986 through 1989. He graduated from the Law School of the University of Utrecht in 1989, was admitted to the Amsterdam Bar in 1989 when he joined Stibbe. He joined Ekelmans Den Hollander in 1996 where he became a Partner in 1998 and Co-Managing Partner in 1999 and was responsible for the merger with Lovells in 2001.
Bert is a member of the Intellectual Property Steering Committee and the Life Sciences Core Team within Hogan Lovells.
Bert's practice encompasses all areas of Intellectual Property, Patents and Life Sciences. He regularly lectures on these areas of law and is a prolific writer and speaker on this topic.
Bert has vast experience in patent litigation in all relevant technical areas, but with a specialisation in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and the medical devices industry. Bert not only handles patent cases before the courts in the Netherlands, but has also been involved in oppositions before the European Patent Office. Bert also advises on patent strategy, patent prosecution and enforcement strategies, as well as transactional matters such as technology transfers and licensing.
Aside from his patent litigation practice, Bert has substantial experience in pharmaceutical (regulatory) law and (technology) litigation before national and international courts (including the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg) and national and international arbitrations. Bert has handled several international arbitrations (ICC, LCIA, WIPO and Netherlands Arbitration Institute arbitrations) and has acted as an Arbitrator in ICC arbitrations.
Bert Oosting's clients include Merck, Schering, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-aventis, Lilly, Bayer, CSL Behring, Centocor, Elan, Medinol, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Wright Medical, Novartis and ev3.
