Long has been advising foreign investors on market entry into Vietnam since 1998. Over his more than 20 years advising clients across a wide range of industries, he has developed an extensive track record of foreign investment, share and asset acquisitions, divestments and joint venture arrangements. His practice is currently focused on energy, including renewable energy, and industrial projects, from initial permitting to brownfield acquisitions and project financing.

Long has advised on the creation of numerous wholly-owned subsidiaries and representative offices of foreign clients in Vietnam and provides on-going legal and administrative support for those Vietnamese entities. He also has significant experience of Vietnamese capital markets matters (including advising on cross-border issuances), major project and infrastructure matters. In connection with his ongoing support for clients doing business in Vietnam, Long has also helped clients resolve a number of significant commercial disputes through negotiations and arbitrations. Long is recommended for various practice areas by Legal 500 Asia Pacific, 2012 and 2013.

Representative experience

Advising JBIC, NEXI, and international commercial lenders in connection to the US$2.6bn financing of the 1.32GW Van Phong 1 coal-fired thermal power plant project in Vietnam.

Advising Singapore-based renewable energy dedicated fund Armstrong, as sponsor, in relation to its acquisition of the Dam Nai wind power project, and subsequent project financing.

Advising an international oil major on the development of an petrochemical project in Vietnam, including joint venture arrangements with a Vietnamese partner.

Advising a syndicate of lenders on the refinancing of Ministry of Finance guaranteed senior loans in relation to a hydroelectric power project in North Vietnam.
